I had the opportunity to meet Ruth two years ago at All Write. I "knew" her work from the Two Writing Teachers Blog, but it was nothing like meeting her in person. She is one of the kindest, most genuine people, I have ever met.
After hearing her speak again at All Write last year, I was able to help arrange to have her come to Memphis to share her talents and expertise with teachers at my school. After that day, Ruth encouraged me to begin writing publicly.
I keep a writing notebook, but I'm a pretty private person. I love reading which means I love the writing of other people, but I've always been quite intimidated about sharing my own writing.
Tara Smith, one of the contributors to the Two Writing Teachers blog (who came on after Ruth decided to focus her writing in other directions), also encouraged me to write and take part in this challenge.
So today, I celebrate online friends and mentors, who have encouraged me to accept this challenge and to share my writing publicly.
I celebrate my favorite bloggers, who had the courage to share their writing publicly and set examples of writing. I can only hope that my writing will one day be as compelling as yours. Thanks for sharing.
I celebrate my favorite authors, who write for a living. I don't know how they write and create such wonderful stories day in and day out, but as an avid reader, I am so thankful they do.
I celebrate this challenge. I celebrate this supportive community that allows a beginner like me to practice my writing in a safe environment. I celebrate that I am learning and growing as a writer each day.
I celebrate writing!
